April 8th – Outreach Day
April 13th – Child Abuse Prevention Month Proclamation and Board of Supervisors Luncheon
Keep an eye out for our posters, banners and displays throughout Mendocino County during the month of April in support of Child Abuse Prevention Month!
Child abuse is a national tragedy, with 3 million cases reported every year in the U.S. Each April, "Child Abuse Prevention Month" activities raise awareness about this problem and what can be done to help prevent the further abuse and neglect of children.
A blue ribbon has come to symbolize the fight against child abuse and neglect. Wear a blue ribbon this month to generate support for the efforts of child abuse prevention nationwide, and consider volunteering.
In an effort to bring the prevention message to every student and to encourage student reflection and creativity, the Children's Action Committee (CAC) of Mendocino County is sponsoring its 1st Annual Student Poster Contest. The contest officially runs between February 15, 2010 and March 22, 2010 and is open to students of all ages.
To encourage as many students as possible to participate, parent approval is the only requirement. No special paints, equipment or poster boards are required. In fact, we request that entries be submitted on regular 8 1/2 " x 11" paper to encourage student participation and to aid in collecting submissions. Entries will be evaluated in three categories: K-4; 5-8; 9-12 and will be judged by a guest panel on creativity and thematic expression.
All students will be recognized for their efforts, with a single grand prize winner in each category. In addition, student work will be displayed during the month of April at the Mendocino County Court House at 101 N. State St. in Ukiah.
